My horse recently got these weird sores, can anyone tell me how to get rid of them?
Written by admin on March 9, 2010 – 9:19 pm -I have an unknown mix of some warm blood horses named Griffin. He started getting little bumps on him about a week ago that turned quickly into pussy scabby hard knobs on his neck, belly, under his mane, and in his tail. I’m really concerned about the ones in his tail, they are rather large (the crust balls are about the size of a chocolate colored raisin) and when I try to break them up and get them out of his tail he thoroughly enjoys it, but it also pulls out huge chunks of tail hair. I love my horses full tail, it’s so easy to braid for shows! I’m afraid that he’ll start rubbing it (I think there may be evidence that he already has) all out.
The only two culprits I can think of are that it is some allergic reaction, or that there are some really nasty bugs out there. I don’t really see how the bugs could make it through all of his tail hair to his tail bone though. I did just start giving him some new feed, of course just small hand-fulls to begin with to get him used to it but that was about the time that these bumps started appearing. It was also around the time that the weather warmed up and the bugs started showing up.
He’s not the only horse that has it in his pasture, there is another mare who has gotten the same kind of scabby things but there is also another gelding who has not a bump on him. The gelding who has no bumps is from this area, the other two are from further south.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated!!
